Workshops and Hearings The workshop on Thursday, December 1, 2005 focused on "Policy Issues and Priorities." The approximately 60 workshop attendees were presented with a list of 15 proposed major initiatives and projects for Castro Valley. The initiatives and projects were reviewed in small groups, followed by a large group discussion that set out to prioritize improvement projects according to the needs of Castro Valley residents. Some of the major initiatives included developing design standards and guidelines for new housing, traffic calming and circulation, a walkable town center, and landscape/ streetscape improvements. Those in attendance were encouraged to vote on what programs and projects they found to be of highest priority for the city. Found the following projects/programs to be of the highest priority for the city: Castro Valley Boulevard streetscape improvements, zoning compliance review, the enforcement of new programs and policies, and neighborhood commercial center site redevelop-ments. This was a hands-on workshop where we delved into specific recommendations for residential development standards, neighborhood parks, community facilities in residential neighborhoods, natural resources protection, and traffic calming strategies. Our workshop focused on where Castro Valley should go in the next 20 years by discussing issues such as traffic, infill residential development creeks, and parks. For a complete summary, click on this link. : : : On July 21, 2004, Alameda County Community Development Agency hosted a kick-off Public Workshop introducing two exciting planning projects, the New General Plan for Castro Valley and the Redevelopment Strategic Plan. The workshop elicited a high level of community interest, and the voices of the Castro Valley community responded loudly and clearly to five pointed questions. All comments received at the workshop and via mail and email during the 10 days following the workshop are included on worksheets in the Appendix.
